The Be Open sound portal is an installation set within London’s Trafalgar square which invites the public to experience design through acoustics.Millimetre were commissioned by The London Design Festival as main contractor for the construction and installation of the Be Open Sound Portal, to be installed in Trafalgar Square from 19th -23rd September 2012.

Working closely with Arup over a series of design meetings we developed their concept and produced a 3D model, which informed our 2D production drawings and enabled us to fabricate the steel and timber substructures. The inner and outer segments were clad externally with a rubber membrane and the substructure was filled with acoustic foam, hidden behind stretched fabric panels mounted internally. These internal white fabric panels hide 9 speakers mounted within the walls and directed toward a central white corian, circular bench.
