Millimetre worked with artist Rayvenn D’Clark and MTArt Agency to produce three bronze sculptures for the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park in Montgomery, Alabama. The works form part of a wider landscape that honours the lives of millions of Black people enslaved in America, and the courage carried forward.

The sculptures were developed through a digital and physical process, worked through directly with the artist in the workshop. One figure existed digitally from earlier work. The remaining two were scanned from live models, then carefully adjusted to reflect the individuals they represent. Each form carries tens of thousands of digitally applied dimples, adding depth and texture before casting.

The figures were cast in silicon bronze using 3D sand-printed moulds produced by Voxeljet, with casting carried out by Maybrey Reliance. Each sculpture was made in multiple sections, then welded, refined, patinated and waxed. Welding rods were cast from surplus bronze to ensure colour consistency across joins. Texture lost through fabrication was reintroduced by hand, following extensive sampling.

Andy led the digital development alongside Rayvenn, working side by side to refine the forms. Production was phased to maintain control, care and accuracy at every stage.

Now installed, the sculptures stand with weight, stillness and permanence in the landscape.
