Bocci: 44 with Omer Arbel

Barbican Foyer, Level G, Barbican Centre, London

September 2016 – April 2017

millimetre once again worked with designer and Bocci creative director Omer Arbel to create a striking site-specific light installation suspended in the Lightwell foyer of the Barbican Centre. Commissioned for the 2016 London Design Festival, the installation consists of over 300 aluminium coral-shaped forms, hanging from delicate threads amid an intricate web of circular lightbulbs.

Bocci used specialist fabrication techniques to create the piece. The 300 suspended forms were made by free-pouring molten aluminium into a large canister containing resin shapes. This immersive installation explores ideas around weightlessness versus mass and craft versus mass production.
