Sculptural Fabric Canopies for Burberry Harrods Takeover

MM were approach by Burberry in the summer of 2023 to help develop and detail a proposal for hanging fabric out the outside of Harrods.
millimetre fabricated the sculptural fabric canopies for Burberry’s signature Knight Blue takeover of Harrods. Working with Format engineers we were able to design a solution that achieved Burberry’s design intent and worked with the restrictions imposed by the buildings grade 2 listing.
The scheme, installed by Sculptivate, stretches ripstop nylon over a rigid aluminium frame. To create the fluid forms careful pattern making by Artura engineering was required and the shapes cnc cut. The final fabric panels were sewn by Six hands and Intension.
The final scheme has 14 tonnes of aluminum and 260 m2 of fabric. The fabric was wrapped around a lightweight aluminum frame which was carefully fixed to the historic terracotta facade.
