Dana Research Centre
Dana Research Centre and Library with Coffey Architects and the Science Museum
Dana Centre, Science Museum, London
October 2015
This Library and Research Centre at the Science Museum is a worldclass environment for academic research, housing the Museum’s extensive archive and collections, as well as its thriving Research and Public History Department.
millimetre was appointed to develop, fabricate and install the stainless steel feature screen that shades the Library. Working closely with Coffey Architects, millimetre developed the canopy and other cladding of transoms and mullions, including lighting and bespoke blinds.
The canopy comprises 32 perforated panels of 2mm folded aluminium, powder coated to RAL colour 9016 (white). millimetre designed the pattern alongside the architects and produced prototypes before coming to the final decision. The screen is hung from the celling with support posts, clad in mirror polished stainless sheet, allowing the posts to disappear into the windows and make the walkway appear to be floating.
