Tate Tanks, Tate Modern, London.

millimetre were commissioned to take a hand sketch drawn by María Magdalena Campos-Pons to fabricate a large-scale metalwork sculpture. The exhibition weaves together sound, sculpture, live plants, and video to tell stories of everyday life, spirituality, and community. At the centre of the space is a metal depiction of a Cuban public square: a ceiba tree growing through an old sugar mill gear.
millimetre created the laser cut metal centrepiece and applied a chemical process to advance the aged character of the metalwork.
Working alongside Buro Happold, a bespoke hanging system was tailored to existing columns to hang the pre-rusted laser cut steel panels. The ‘header’ to hang the artwork was designed to be installed in the gallery without damage to the structure of the Tate Tanks.
