RIBA Levis Waterless
RIBA Levis Waterless for McChesney Architects
Levis Regents Street, London
May 2011
Commissioned by McChesney Architects for the RIBA – Regents Street Window Project, Millimetre were asked to make and install Water Millimetre devised a method of constructing the sculpture using copper rivets and washers to connect the jeans, remaining true to the Original Riveted Levis philosophy. The final sculpture is 4.8 metres wide by 9.6 metres long, extending to a height of 3.1 metres and constructed from over 140 pairs of jeans.
For installation the final riveted construction was inverted and hung from the ceiling of the flagship Levis store on Regents Street London, suspended by rolled steel tubing that was originally used to shape its custom textile membrane forma. The sculpture provides a striking, fun, original addition to the Regents Street Window Project for 2011.
