The London Dresser
The London Dresser for SOCA and the Wonder Installation Series
South Bank London
August 2012
The London Dresser; a large scale cabinet displaying London’s iconic buildings recreated as beautifully crafted seats. By day the cabinet opens up and the seats are arranged to create a skyline view and social gathering space. The cabinet frames the view and captures it changing on film during the London Olympics. By night the buildings are placed inside the cabinet to create an interactive backdrop to the street, where they are momentarily illuminated when people pass by and peer in.
The project was commissioned by the Mayor of London as part of the Wonder Installation series for 2012. It was designed by Studio Of Cinematic Architecture and University of Westminster. Designs were developed in collaboration with millimetre.
